Dow Announces Methyl Cellulose Capacity Increase

Expansion Underscores the Company’s Commitment to the Industry

HORGEN, Switzerland – May 30, 2016 – Dow Construction Chemicals (DCC), a business unit of The Dow Chemical Company (NYSE: DOW), has announced an expansion in production capacity for methyl cellulose at its Bomlitz production facility in Germany. The expansion is expected to meet increasing demand for cellulosic technology in the construction industry.  This specific investment, coupled with investments at the Dow Bitterfeld, Germany site and other improvement projects, is expected to enable as much as 5,000 MT additional annual capacity of WALOCELTM Cellulose Ether to come on-stream by the end of 2017. The decision is the latest development in a series of measures from Dow aimed at boosting efficiency and increasing methyl cellulose output in recent years in response to rising customer demand for high quality cellulose ether products. “We are making this considerable investment in order to ensure reliability of supply for our customers and in support of their steady growth,” said Marco ten Bruggencate, Global Business Director for Dow Construction Chemicals. “It’s one step forward in our long-term investment plans, and it is a major one:  demonstrating our ongoing commitment to the industry and allowing Dow to sustain a leading position with continuous innovation in this market.
